Sugar yields in the Netherlands have dropped off to 16.9%, down 0.1% on the week, as the country reaches the finishing point in its harvesting cycle, according to the latest weekly figures published by Dutch producer Suiker Unie.

No official figures have been released this regarding exact harvest figures, however the previous week's data marked an increase in harvesting as nearly 3,400 hectares of beet was harvested compared with the week before, when only 2,300 hectares was covered.

Last week, the Dutch producer said: "Only a small 800 hectares of beet is left to be harvested now."

If the average harvest is anything to go by, all beet crop in the Netherlands should be harvested by now.

However, given the festive time of the year and no official word from Suiker Unie, there is chance that some hectares of beet crop might still be left to harvest.

Last week was marked by a small decrease in sugar yields across the country to lower yields.

The highest sugar yield in the latest week was shared between 5 different regions; WZeeuwsch-Vlaanderen, Wieringermeer, Lijmers/OudeIJssel, DePeel and Zuid-Limburg with a yield of 17.3%.

Last week's highest achiever was far behind at 16.7% as it experienced a fall of 0.6%.

Meanwhile, the wider Groningen area remains as the one of the highest yielding region at an average of 17.1%, down from last week's figure of 17.23%, the data show.

These figures continue to be an improvement on the very first yield figures of the campaign in the Netherlands, which stood at an average of 15.4% for the entire country.

The average beet yield for the country has now sustained an average of 16.95% over the latest month, and an average of 16.61% thus far.

Temperatures are currently forecast to be higher than normal for this time of the year in many beet producing regions of Europe, especially in the Netherlands, where, over the next 14 days temperatures will hover between 6 and 12 degrees Celsius.
