Russia's Gazprom has begun natural gas output from its fifth producing onshore well in Bangladesh, Semutang-6, at around 7,000 Mcf/d, Bapex Managing Director Md Abdul Baqi told Platts Friday.

The well, which started production last week, has the potential to produce over 10,000 Mcf/d, Baqi said.

The well is located in south-east Bangladesh; it was drilled to a depth of 3,032 meters.

The well is one of 10 to be constructed by Gazprom International under contracts with state-owned entities in Bangladesh. The 10-well program includes the Titas, Rashidpur, Semutang, Begumganj, Srikail and Shahbazpur fields at depths ranging from 2,900 to 4,050 meters.

Bangladesh's natural gas output hovers around 2.31 Bcf/d against demand of 2.7 to 3 Bcf/d.
