Weekly injections of LNG into the French gas grid rose by 5.9% on the year to 3,918.5 GWh, as higher Mediterranean inputs outweighed lower injections on the Atlantic coast, the latest data from gas grid operator GRTgaz shows.

In the week ending Sunday, LNG flows into the grid at the Mediterranean terminals of Fos Tonkin and Fos Cavaou climbed by 56.2% on the year to 2,746.4 GWh.

At Montoir de Bretagne, on the Atlantic coast, grid inputs fell by 39.7% to 1,172.1 GWh.

Average temperatures in France were well above levels recorded in the same week last year and weekly gas demand in the GRTgaz grid fell by 35.3% on the year to 5,108.2 GWh.

LNG supplies accounted for some 77% of this gas demand, compared with 47% in the same week last year.

Weekly net inflows of pipeline gas into France fell on the year.

At Dunkirk, where flows resumed May 9 following a stoppage, weekly inflows dropped by 54.9% on the year to 1,581.2 GWh. Dunkirk is the entry point for Norwegian gas.

At Obergailbach, where Russian gas enters France, net inflows softened by 4.4% to 1,819.5 GWh.

At Taisnieres, the entry point on the Belgian border, net inflows fell by 17.0% to 2,960.4 GWh, high and low calorific gas combined.

As a week-on-week comparison, net inflows at Obergailbach and Taisnieres fell by 15.1% and by 11.4%, respectively. At Dunkirk, flows were stopped from May 2 to May 9.

Weekly injections of LNG into the grid climbed by 31.2% on the week.

Inputs at the Fos terminals rose by 36.1%, while injections at Montoir were 20.9% higher.

Gas demand in the GRTgaz grid fell by 7.4% over the same period. The share of this gas demand met by LNG supplies rose from 54% in the week ending May 8, to 77% last week.
