Shell will halt production from its Auger platform in the US Gulf of Mexico while it ties in wells from the Cardamom development, the company said Wednesday.

The deepwater platform is currently producing some 55,000 b/d of oil equivalent, according to Shell, which has a share in the output of about 30,000 boe/d.

"Work to shut-in the platform began this week," Shell spokeswoman Kayla Macke said in an emailed response to questions. The company expects production to restart in the fourth quarter.

"Once online in 2014, Cardamom (100% Shell share) is expected to produce at a peak rate of 50,000 boe/d," said Shell in its statement.

The Cardamom discovery is about 225 miles (363 km) southwest of New Orleans, Louisiana, in water more than 2,720 feet deep, the company said.
