Natural gas production in the Lower-48 US states rose to 73.24 Bcf/d in April, up 0.8%, or 570,000 Mcf/d, from March, the Energy Information Administration said Friday in its monthly gross production report.

April output was up from a revised 72.67 Bcf/d average production in March, EIA said.

Other States had the largest volume increase at 1.9%, or 470,000 Mcf/d, as several operators reported new wells in the Marcellus and Niobrara shales, the EIA said.

Texas output rose 0.5%, or 110,000 Mcf/d, and New Mexico production increased 2.8%, or 100,000 Mcf/d, as new wells in both states were brought online, EIA added.

The Gulf of Mexico also weighed in with a 1.6%, 60,000 Mcf/d, increase as maintenance and pipeline issues from previous months were resolved.

Louisiana production saw one of the largest decreases, falling 2.7%, or 190,000 Mcf/d, as several operators reported plant and pipeline maintenance in addition to normal well declines, the EIA said.

Total US production was 82.69 Bcf/d in April, up 0.6% from a revised 82.19 Bcf/d in March.
