Sri Lanka's state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation shut the country's sole 50,000 b/d oil refinery at Sapugaskanda on Saturday following damage to an offshore pipeline, local media reported this week.

"Emergency repairs are being made to the pipeline coming from a offshore point buoy mooring system," Lanka Business Online reported Monday citing Cypetco refinery manager Neil Jayasekera.

Ceypetco could not be reached for comment Tuesday and it is not clear how long the refinery will be shut.

The shutdown is not likely to have a large impact on the Asian diesel market as Sri Lanka's gasoil demand is currently at a seasonal low due to the monsoon season, the Ceypetco official was cited as saying. He added that there will be no shortage of refined products in the domestic market.
