South Korean purified terephthalic acid maker Hanwha General Chemical will shut its 700,000 mt/year Daesan plant later tonight, a source close to the company confirmed Monday.
The shutdown, in response to a problem detected Thursday, led to the declaration of force majeure earlier today, the source added.
While the source did not give out details behind the problem, which caused the shutdown, he estimated it could be a few weeks before the plant is back online.
Hanwha General Chemical's two PTA plants at Ulsan, each with a capacity of 450,000 mt/year, are running smoothly.
