The US Department of Commerce Tuesday said it had imposed preliminary antidumping duties on polytetrafluoroethylene imports from China and India.

"Commerce preliminarily determined that exporters from China and India have sold PTFE resin in the United States at 69.34% to 208.16% and 18.49% less than fair value, respectively," the department said.

For China, Daikin Fluorochemicals had been assigned with an 84.75% duty, while Shandong Dongyue Polymer Material Co. faced 69.34%. Hangzhou Fine Fluorotech and Shanghai Huayi 3F New Materials Sales had been slapped with 78.74% each. Other than the named companies, a China-wide duty of 208.16% was imposed.

For India, a duty of 18.49% was imposed on Gujarat Fluorochemicals and all other domestic producers and exporters.

The Department of commerce will make a final determination on the antidumping duties on September 12.

In 2016, the US received 3,057 mt of PTFE from China and 1,716 mt from India, valued at $24.6 million and $14.3 million, respectively, the US Census Bureau said.

PTFE is used in the production of semiconductors, automotive components, electrical appliances and non-stick frying pans.
