US olefins producer Dow Chemical began restart procedures Tuesday on its Light Hydrocarbons Unit 9 at its Freeport, Texas, site after completing maintenance, the company said in a regulatory filing. The emissions event associated with the restart is scheduled to run through December 18, according to the filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The 1.5 million mt/year steam cracker went down December 4 while work was carried out on an exchanger, according to a previous filing.
The newbuild steam cracker, along with a 400,000 mt/year polyethylene plant, first began production in September.
