BASF began preparations for a second time Monday for the startup of its 2-ethylhexanol unit in Pasadena, Texas, the company said.

The Pasadena plant "will begin inventorying the propylene pipeline and two vessels ... in preparation for the startup of the 2-EH unit," the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The flaring at the 125,000 mt/year plant is expected to run through Thursday, according to the filing.

The plant previously planned for the process to begin May 31, but postponed it due to unforeseen circumstances, the company said in a separate filing with the TCEQ.

A company spokeswoman could not be reached Monday, but BASF spokeswoman Leslie Thomas previously said June 1, "The project is proceeding in Pasadena for the 2-EH unit. We are planning to start production in the coming months."

The project includes plans to convert 2-PH (2-propylheptanol) production to 2-EH (2-ethylhexanol) to generate reliable raw material integration for Palatinol DOTP, according to BASF. In addition, BASF will discontinue the manufacture of phthalic anhydride molten at the facility.
