ArcelorMittal's Venezuelan steel pipe unit, Unicon, won a tender to supply pipeline to the country's state-owned oil producer PDVSA, the country's news agency said Monday.

Unicon won a tender to provide around 18,000 meters of pipeline for the country's oil industry. No tonnage was provided.

"It is part of a plan to increase the participation of the national industrial sector," the news agency said.

According to Unicon's president, Hector Rodriguez, the order will replace the pipelines of Campo Pirital, in the city of Punta de Mata in Monagas state. It connects the oil wells of Campo Pirital, Tejero and Santa Barbara.

All tubes will be certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API), Rodriguez said.

Unicon mainly supplies two sectors in Venezuela: the oil and construction industries, the latter with structural pipes for Gran Mision Vivienda Venezuela, the government's housing program.

ArcelorMittal Brazil acquired Unicon -- the largest pipe producer in Venezuela -- in 2009.

The company's total production capacity is 500,000 mt/year. Semi-finished products are supplied by state-owned steelmaker Sidor. It has six manufacturing facilities: four in the city of La Victoria, one in Barquisimeto and one in Matanzas.
