Ineos Styrolution had a unit upset at its Pasadena, Texas, styrene plant Thursday, according to a message left on a community hotline.

The company had a styrene unit upset, according to the message left on the East Harris County Manufacturers Association hotline.

"Over the next few hours there could be some intermittent use of the plant's safety flare as the plant is being stabilized and started back up," the company said.

"There is also the chance that some high-pressure steam may be released during certain phases of the shutdown/start-up process, which could result in a loud noise and a white plume," it added.

Ineos Styrolution's Pasadena plant, also referred to as Bayport, has an annual production capacity of 1.7 billion lb/year.
