Description

Aconitum sinomontanum Nakai, a member of the Ranunculaceae family, is a perennial herb whose roots are used medicinally. It is a unique plant species in China, widely distributed in Sichuan, western Hubei, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Gansu, Shaanxi, western Henan, Shanxi, Hebei, Yunnan, Guizhou, and other regions, with abundant natural resources. Traditionally, it has been used to reduce swelling, relieve pain, promote blood circulation to resolve blood stasis, and dispel wind. It is primarily indicated for conditions such as fractures, rheumatic pain of the lower back and legs, sores and scabies, scrofula, palpitations, gastric pain, and traumatic injuries.

The main bioactive constituents of Aconitum sinomontanum are alkaloids. Among them, Lappaconite Hydrobromide is the hydrobromide salt of the alkaloid lappaconitine. This compound demonstrates strong analgesic activity, with analgesic potency approximately seven times that of aminopyrine and comparable to pethidine (meperidine). Importantly, it is a non-addictive analgesic, widely used clinically in the treatment of various types of pain.
