Introduction
Green coffee extract, made from coffee beans before they are roasted, that has higher nutritional value than roasted coffee whose nutrients have been partially destroyed during roasting. It may help lower blood pressure in people with mild hypertension. Coffee’s effects on glycemic control and weight loss have been attributed to its components, including chlorogenic acid, quinides, lignans, and trigonelline, all of which have been shown to improve glucose metabolism in animal studies. Chlorogenic acid is first and foremost an antioxidant of the gods. It is a plant compound. It may have some effect on keeping down glucose absorption which in turn helps reduce weight. It has specifically been shown to inhibit an enzyme, glucose-6-phosphatase, that promotes the formation of glucose (sugar) in the liver.
