Resveratrol is a naturally occurring polyphenol antioxidant found in red grape skin, Japanese knotweed, peanuts, blueberries and some other berries. It is a powerful antioxidant produced by some plants to protect them against environmental stresses, such as, UV-radiation and bacterial and fungal infection. The resveratrol we supply is extracted from Japanese knotweed, the plant source with the highest resveratrol content. It is used as a medicine.
Japanese knotweed, scientifically called polygonum cuspidatum, is a member of the buckwheat family. The plant is an upright, shrubby, herbaceous, woody-appearing perennial reaching heights of 10 to 15 feet (3 to 4.5 m). The stems are smooth, stout, and hollow. It bears large heart-shaped leaves and has branched sprays of small white flowers in late summer and fall. The plant develops small triangular winged seeds. The emerging shoots can be picked in the spring and after boiling they taste a lemony flavor
